Alerting services
There are several ways to stay up-to-date with new literature in your field of research. On this page you can find information on alerting services for:
- Books
- Journals (table of contents)
- Bibliographic databases (journal articles, conference papers, reports)
- Citations to journal articles
- Current research
- You can keep up with what’s happening on the Internet in your field of interest by setting up a Web alert through Google Alerts (BETA).
Books
Many publishers offer to alert you when new books in your field of interest have been published. Here you can find a selection of publishers/online bookstores that offer these services:
Journals (table of contents)
Most journals offer the possibility to automatically receive the table of contents of new journal issues by e-mail. In TUlib you can find information on how to use these services.
It is possible to set up table of contents alerts for a number of journals through ISI's Web of Knowledge. For more information, see the section My Journal List in the Web of Knowledge help file.
Bibliographic databases
Some alerting services allow you to stay up-to-date automatically with new information that has been added to a database and meets your search criteria. These alerting services are also called ‘search alerts’. You can find more information on these services in TUlib. The following links take you to information on setting up search alerts in some much used databases/database interfaces:
Citations to journal articles
It is possible to set up a citation alert in Web of Knowledge and in ScienceDirect. You will receive an e-mail message when an article that you have selected has been cited by a new article that has been added to the specified database.

Current research
The Dutch Research Database (NOD) has its own alerting service. You can subscribe to research information about a specific subject on the basis of your own search criteria. You will be notified by e-mail of research information that has been recently added to the NOD.

Attenderingsdiensten
Er zijn verschillende mogelijkheden om automatisch op de hoogte te blijven van nieuwe literatuur op uw vakgebied. U vindt op deze pagina informatie over attenderingsdiensten voor:
- Boeken
- Tijdschriften (inhoudsopgaven)
- Bibliografische databases (tijdschriftartikelen, congresbijdragen, rapporten)
- Citaties naar tijdschriftartikelen
- Lopend onderzoek
- Via het instellen van een Google Alerts (BETA) kunt u op de hoogte blijven van nieuwe informatie op het WWW op uw vakgebied.
Boeken
Diverse uitgevers attenderen u wanneer er nieuwe boeken op uw vakgebied zijn verschenen. Hieronder vindt u een selectie van uitgevers/boekhandels die deze dienst aanbieden:
Tijdschriften (inhoudsopgaven)
De meeste tijdschriften bieden de mogelijkheid om automatisch per e-mail de inhoudsopgave te ontvangen van een nieuw tijdschriftnummer. In TUlib wordt uitgelegd hoe u hiervan gebruik kunt maken.
Via ISI's Web of Knowledge is het mogelijk om alerts op de inhoudsopgaves van meerdere tijdschriften op te zetten. Zie voor meer informatie het onderdeel My Journal List in de Web of Knowledge helpfile.
Bibliografische databases
Enkele attenderingsdiensten houden u automatisch op de hoogte van nieuw materiaal dat aan een database is toegevoegd en overeenstemt met uw zoekcriteria. Deze attenderingsdiensten worden ook wel search alerts genoemd. In TUlib vindt u hierover meer uitleg. Citaties naar tijdschriftartikelen
In Web of Knowledge en ScienceDirect is het mogelijk om een citatie alert op te zetten. U krijgt dan per e-mail bericht wanneer een door u geselecteerd artikel wordt geciteerd door een nieuw artikel dat opgenomen wordt in de betreffende database.

Lopend onderzoek
De Nederlandse Onderzoek Databank (NOD) heeft een eigen attenderingservice. U kunt u zich abonneren op onderzoekinformatie over een bepaald onderwerp aan de hand van uw eigen zoekcriteria. Vervolgens ontvangt u regelmatig per e-mail onderzoekinformatie die recentelijk aan de NOD is toegevoegd.
