To locate books in TU Delft Library, use the online catalogue.

Subject Searching.

Each book in the library is given a classification code which represents the subject of the book. In the Central Library books are arranged on the shelves according to these classificationcodes so that books on the same subject are on the same shelf. Physics books can be found at the third floor. Some examples of the types of classification codes that might be of interest for this example are (tip: click on the hyperlinked code to find books on the subject):

Keyword Searching.

You can also search the library catalogue using keywords. This technique locates words in a book's title, subject headings, author or in other fields within the record.

Bibliographic databases (Articles)

You can find articles using the so called bibliographic database (i.e. Web of Science, Inspec, SciFinder). You can start your search by thinking about the search terms you want to use. When looking for information on acoustic anemometers there are two important aspects:

Anemometer and acoustic

Now try to think of different terms for these aspects. For instance:

Anemometer - wind meter - wind sensor

Acoustic - sonic – ultrasonic

Now you can build your query:

Combine the different aspects using the AND operator
Combine the different terms for a similar aspect using the OR operator

So to find articles in Web of Science try using the query:

(anemometer OR wind meter OR wind sensor) AND (acoustic OR sonic OR ultrasonic)

Too many results?

set more or stricter limits
check your use of truncation and check that AND and OR are used correctly?
use proximity operators between aspect 1 and 2, if the resource implements proximity searching

Too few results?

find more synonyms, spelling variations
loosen up your search limits
check your use of truncation and check that AND en OR are used correctly?
check for spelling errors

Om boeken te vinden in de bibliotheek van de TU Delft gebruikt u de online catalogus.

Zoeken op onderwerp.

Elk boek in de Bibliotheek krijgt één of meer classificatiecodes die aangeven over welk onderwerp het boek gaat. In the Centrale Vestiging worden de boeken op onderwerp in de kast geplaatst zodat boeken over hetzelfde onderwerp zoveel mogelijk bij elkaar komen te staan. De boeken over natuurkunde staan op de derde etage in de boekenwand. Enkele voorbeelden van classificatiecodes van boeken die van belang zouden kunnen zijn voor dit voorbeeld zijn: (tip: klik op de hyperlink om de boeken over een bepaald onderwerp te bekijken):

Zoeken op trefwoord.

Je kunt ook de catalogues doorzoeken met behulp van je eigen trefwoorden. Via deze manier vindt u boeken met de gevraagde trefwoorden in de titel, classificatiecode, auteur of in andere velden van het record.

Bibliografische databases (Artikelen)

Artikelen kunt u vinden door gebruik te maken van de zogenaamde bibliografische databases zoals bijvoorbeeld Web of Science, Inspec, SciFinder. Voordat u gaat zoeken dient u na te denken over de zoektermen die u wilt gebruiken. Bij de zoektocht naar informatie over akoestische anemometers zijn er twee belangrijke aspecten:

Vervolgens probeert u verschillende termen voor deze twee aspecten te bedenken:
