What is SFX? The SFX product gives access to additional services from databases and the catalogue. An example of these additional services has been added below. SFX is a term that is frequently used in the film industry to denote “special effects”. Who can use SFX? From the TU campus - TU staff members, students and library users From home - all TU staff members and TU students connected to (or logging into) the network of the TU. SFX is available from most article database; Web of Science, all WebSPIRS databases (i.e. Current Contents, Compendex), all CSA databases (i.e. Metadex, Aerospace Engineering), Chemical Abstracts (SciFinder), MathScinet, and a number of Proquest databases (ABI-Inform). In September 2004 SFX services have been added to the library catalogue. Why don't I see any SFX buttons? The most likely case is that you have disabled JavaScript in your browser. If it's turned off, the buttons will not appear. Re-enable JavaScript and everything should be fine. The resource you are using doesn't have SFX services yet. You have found a reference without an ISSN- or ISBN-number. If the database does not contain this information the SFX-services won’t appear. Why didn't I get a full-text link for my article? There are three likely reasons: There is no full-text version available (either for that journal or for specific -usually older- volumes The library does not have a subscription on the full-text for that journal The journal is not (yet) part of the SFX database Why does the number of options in the SFX window vary? When you click the SFX icon, the system runs through the SFX database to see what services are available for the volume of the journal in which you found the article. Only those services which are available for that volume of that title will display. SFX offers only those services that are available. Questions?
